Robert (Bob) Adolph Sihler, 73, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Bob was born in Freehold, New Jersey, and he was the son of the late Adolph Sihler and the late Jane Burkard Sihler.
Bob attended Freehold Regional High School and graduated in 1968. He graduated from Monmouth College, (now Monmouth University) with a B.S. in Accounting in 1973. After graduating from college, Bob began a proud, 33-year career with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a bureau of the U.S. Department of Treasury. The OCC is the regulatory agency for the national banking system. Bob was employed as a bank examiner in New Jersey, Kansas City, MO and Washington D.C.
On May 21, 1988, Bob married Ann Jaedicke in Wichita Falls, Texas. Together they would live in Overland Park, KS, Fairfax, VA, and Travelers Rest, SC. Bob retired from the OCC in 2006. In January 2011, Bob and Ann moved to Travelers Rest, SC to begin their retirement golf lives.
Bob valued long-time, close friends. He maintained rich friendships with his hometown friends, and lasting friendships with his prior co-workers. With his friends and his family, he displayed an undisputed quick wit. Bob had a passion for precision. He also had a passion for making life as beautiful as possible for Ann.
Bob was a car enthusiast his entire life and followed Formula 1 racing for over 50 years. With Ann, he attended the Italian Grand Prix at Monza and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. As a young man, he frequented the race track at Watkins Glen, NY, and he attended Jim Russell Racing Drivers School in Mt. Tremblant, Canada.
Bob and Ann loved to be outside together. They enjoyed tennis in Washington D.C., snow skiing in Colorado and cycling in northern Virginia. Early in their marriage, Bob and Ann would take golf lessons at a municipal course in Kansas. From that point forward, their favorite way to spend a day was to play golf together. They would play golf together at International Country Club in Fairfax, Virginia, The Cliffs Valley in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, and at many other U.S. and international golf courses.
Bob enjoyed spending hours in the kitchen, preparing beautiful and classic meals. Bob supported the arts and enjoyed theatre, classical music and country western music.
Bob loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ann Frances Jaedicke, and by three sisters, Nancy Mück (Wayne) of Sarasota FL, Gail Fivek, of Manchester, NJ and Lorane Stitcher, of Howell, NJ. Bob was close with and loved all his nieces and nephews. They include Brian Mick, Sarasota FL, Kyra Fivek, Neptune, NJ, Elizabeth Jaedicke, Arlington, MA and Joshua Jaedicke, North Hills, CA.
A celebration of life to honor Robert Adolph Sihler’s life will be held at a later date.
