Jasper, Hampton, state police investigating after woman found tied at Corner Lake Landing

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is investigating a case involving a woman who was found bound and tied at a Grays-area boat landing.

Local and state police are investigating a case involving a woman who was found with her hands tied at a Jasper County boat landing.

Social media and community chatter were buzzing Wednesday as residents near Grays, a rural portion of Jasper County that borders Hampton County, began reporting a heavy police presence as well as EMS and other emergency responders.

Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday the Jasper County Sheriff's Office posted a community update on its Facebook page.

The JCSO reported that around 2:57 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to Corner Lake Landing "in reference to a white male on the side of the riverbank with hands tied together."

Upon arrival and further investigation, deputies determined that the victim was a white female, who was immediately transported to a local hospital. There is no information on her injuries or condition.

The JCSO, along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office and the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office "worked tirelessly through the late-evening hours in investigating this incident to identify the victim in this case," the release said.

At midday Thursday, the victim had yet to be identified.

JCSO Chief Deputy Jeff Crosby told The Hampton County Guardian Thursday that the victim was still alive, but no other information was available to share with the public, and the case remains under investigation.

Corner Lake Landing is a popular fishing spot along the Coosawhatchie River and often is a hangout spot for local youths.

"We ask that you keep the victim and her family in your prayers," states the Jasper Sheriff's Office. "Please keep in mind that this is an ongoing investigation."

The JCSO also extended appreciation to everyone assisting with this case.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
