The 14-year-old accused in Tanglewood shooting charged with murder, pleads not guilty

The 14-year-old arrested in the 2022 shooting at Tanglewood Middle School was in court Thursday and pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.

Jordan Williams was bound over to the adult court in March to face a murder charge in the fatal shooting of fellow Tanglewood student Jamari Cortez Bonaparte-Jackson in March 2022. Williams was 12 at the time of the shooting.

Judge Perry H. Gravely of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court also denied Williams bond. He will continue to be held at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice Detention Center in Columbia.

When first arrested, Williams was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a firearm by someone who is under 18 years old, and possession of a weapon on a school campus. The possession charges were not waived over to the adult court.
