A free Mental Health Awareness Month Lunch and Learn series is offered throughout the month at Tryon International. Admission is free and anyone is welcome, but registration is required. In addition, “Every Brilliant Thing” will be presented at 7 p.m. May 9 – 10 at the Ridge, the third floor of the International Pavilion at Tryon International. This is a one-man show by Duncan MacMillian. While the show tackles the very serious topics of mental health, depression, and suicide, it is a show filled with humor, joy, and hope. Tickets are $20 per person, with $10 tickets available for all students. Each performance of “Every Brilliant Thing” will be followed by complimentary dessert and a panel discussion with mental health professionals from Pavillon, CooperRiis, and St. Luke’s Hospital Mental Health and Wellness. Safe Harbor offers survivor support groups and classes for survivors to learn more about the cycle of violence and how to parent their children in the wake of domestic violence. Back In Control – Parent Enrichment Course is 6 – 8 p.m. Mondays, May 6 – June 10 at Just Say Something. The six-week course is free for Greenville County residents. Girl Care for Mothers and Daughters is offered at 6:15 p.m. July 24 at Bon Secours St. Francis Eastside. The cost is $20 per mom/daughter. This class focuses on the emotional and physical changes during puberty for the 9- to 11-year-old female and her mother or female support person. Information is presented on a level so that participants find it easy to understand and it encourages further discussion for mom and daughter. Julie Valentine Center's Online Support Group (OSG) is an anonymous online group chat that allows members of the community who have been affected by sexual violence to connect with one another. OSG can be a great support for caregivers and loved ones of children who have experienced child abuse and/or survivors of child abuse and/or sexual assault.
