Drinkin’ on the job … The One 5 experience at Hartness
We headed east, out to the Hartness property, to check out what’s new in the neighborhood for this month’s cocktailin’ excursion. While we often gravitate toward the many awesome downtown haunts, this idyllic Eastside enclave in “The 29615” is creating quite the buzz. The One5 restaurant, recently opened in the Hartness Village Center, is most definitely buzz-worthy!!
Come one, come all
While Hartness community locals are drawn to the delicious dishes coming from Chef Nelson De Hoyos’ kitchen, the bar team’s creations also have word spreading far and wide about all that The One5 has to offer! On any given day, Anna, Mills and Ryan behind the bar say they strike up conversations with patrons from all over … a true indication that these folks are doing something right!
We did some sipping and nibbling ourselves…
De Hoyos
Created by Anna and aptly named after Chef Nelson, this cocktail mimics his exuberance, zest, and creativity. Overflowing with flavors that marry Jamaican rum, fresh lime, Tajin, bitters, mango juice and fresh jalapeño, this drink bursts and pops with flavor in every sip! Chef’s kiss! Or should we say chef's sip!
The Red Velvet
Creating combinations that are mysterious and intriguing are the bread and butter of this establishment. Deeply rich, while still maintaining a buoyancy of flavor is where the magic happens here. Cocktail curator Mills combines Lunazul tequila, house-made strawberry shrub, Peychaud's bitters, fresh basil and a black peppercorn vinegar that is ebullient, energetic and brimming with freshness to create this velvety concoction. This one is new for the spring menu -- the best sign since daffodils that spring has arrived!
The Amarolux Stunner
One of our favorite new flavors, Amaro, is highlighted in this enticing beverage created by Ryan. This gin-based libation is intoxicating in more ways than one! In addition to Montenegro Amaro, honey-lemon syrup and bitters help to perfectly balance out the herby notes of Kakira Gin, providing a kaleidoscope of flavors and textures. With every sip you will find a masterpiece of flavors that continue to develop as you savor every moment.
Creativity abounds
Chef De Hoyos pulled out all the stops in the kitchen to give us a sampling of his incredible talents. From tuna tartare, a deconstructed sushi masterpiece, to the pure perfection of the airline chicken, the dishes were true stunners. After several years honing his skills in a steakhouse, Nelson is especially loving the opportunity to get creative with seafood – and we are forever grateful because the oyster appetizer is out of this world! We think you’re gonna need a bigger table!
