Spring/Summer 2024 runway trends we love — and where to get them
The Spring/Summer 2024 fashion runways were brimming with wearability. Designers played with classic elements in fresh combinations, delivering looks that prove to be as practical as they are stylish by seamlessly transitioning into your daily outfit rotation.
While some might refer to them as “trends,” these styles are anything but flash-in-the-pan – they are pieces you will not tire of anytime soon. We’ve taken the guesswork out of shopping by teaming with Monkees of the West End to achieve similar looks -- without the designer price tag.
The White Dress
If you buy one thing this season -- make it a pure white dress. From ethereal and diaphanous to sharp and crisp, this will be your go-to from Spring to Summer and beyond. Transition this core piece into your Fall wardrobe with layers and a pair of boots when the temps drop. Local Look: Rebecca Dress by Kleid, $567
Color Story: Black
In keeping with past seasons — black remained predominant on the runways. Austere, all black looks were anything but boring. Sheer layers, lace looks, spring leather, fringe, or sharp, tailored silhouettes — there is no lack of adaptations to choose from. Local Look: Aria Dress in Black by Steve Madden, $89
Short shorts
Show some leg in this summertime staple. Hems range from Bermudas to itty-bitty and everything in between, so there’s a multitude of options for you to choose one in your comfort zone. Longer styles find balance when coordinated with cropped bouclé jackets and shorter shorts pair well with billowy silk tops. Local Look: Faux Leather Shorts in Caramel by Susana Monaco, $158
Preppy
Country Club chic is back with modern spins on Ivy League classics. Polo shirts, perfect pleats and ruby stripes feel new when presented in unexpected color combinations. Local Look: Cropped Polo Sweater in Fondant by White and Warren, $345
Seeing Red
Austere black and white combos are everywhere – but if you're craving color, there are pops of saturated orangey red, deep cherry and oxblood sprinkled throughout this season’s collections. Full monochromatic looks, knit separates, accessories and small accents make their way into styles for both day and night. Local Look: Evi Gown in Red Floral by Hutch, $394
60’s Inspired Minis
Hems are once again making headlines. While there is a mix of long and midi, the mini skirt --particularly in mod style silhouettes -- had a notable presence on the runways with options ranging from A-line skirts to demure lady-like dresses. The short length may not seem practical when the temps are still cool. But when layered with tights and paired with an oversized jacket, it’s the perfect transitional pairing. Local Look: Lachlan Mini Dress in Black by Alice + Olivia, $495
Open Work
Light weight and cool, crochet and open work textures are not just for sand and sea. This retro ‘70’s inspired trend is prevalent in dresses, matching sets, separates and accessories. Not solely for daytime -- longer form-fitting silhouettes are winning date night looks during balmy months. Local Look: Super Stars Sweater in Almond by Lisa Todd, $206
Appliquéd Flowers
Nothing says spring like flowers, and the runways were blooming. Appliquéd, textural 3D posies on dresses and separates were just one rendition of floral motifs that were anything but run-of-the-mill. Styles in soft pastels are great choices for a perfect wedding-guest look. Local Look: Briar Dress in Dusty Pink by Elliatt, $499.
