A hidden treasure: At Home With Wes and Mignon Fowler
Homes that are secretly hidden away are among my favorites. On several acres between Botany Woods and Lake Forest a couple of homes are tucked away, surrounded by woods. One of these hidden homes belongs to friends who became neighbors.
After years of stopping through Greenville, Wes and Mignon moved here as recent empty nesters. The tranquil setting, convenient location and quality construction by Dillard-Jones led the Fowlers to purchase the home and begin to address its design drawbacks.

Mignon’s career designing model homes for builders around the Southeast had exposed her to a variety of floor plans and styles. Wes also enjoys renovations and projects, especially woodworking.
They shared the same goal, which was to inject their personal vision into the home’s renovation. The kitchen was the pinnacle of the project, as it is for most homeowners. Mignon designed much of the kitchen herself. While the Fowlers sourced the products and completed some work themselves, they subcontracted most aspects of the kitchen project, using references from locals.
Other areas of the home were more easily elevated with fresh paint, personal art, collected treasures and unique light fixtures. The homeowners successfully coupled beautiful, high-end design elements with more cost-efficient options.
Mignon says her design approach is to have a home tell a story throughout every room.
Their favorite feature of the home? The Fowlers say it’s the setting -- coming home from travel or work to peacefulness and privacy, but also enjoying the convenience of being just a few minutes from downtown Greenville.
The Fowlers say they continue to find hidden treasures on their travels around the world to add to their hidden treasure of a home.
