My Favorite Room: Julia Lindholm Estrada's dramatic, yet cozy cabin kitchen

Nestled amongst nine acres of otherwise undeveloped land, photographer Julia Lindholm Estrada and her husband David built their dream modern cabin, leaning into their shared creative nature along the way.
As Julia’s work incorporates natural light and focused, yet thoughtful images, her home needed to reflect the same, she says. 16-foot ceilings provide a stylish drama, while multiple textures and neutrals create a cozy spot to unwind after a long day.
The need to maximize storage in the home’s petite footprint called for 9-feet of kitchen cabinets with additional storage under the island. And to pay homage to their new hometown, Julia incorporated treasures from the Travelers Rest farmers market and local makers into her home's design.
Top three tips for recreating this look:
- 1. Bring the outdoors in with plants, natural elements, earth tones, and textures while taking inspiration from the land around you.
- 2. Go bold in one or two areas of the design — our oversized dome copper pendant lights were one of our favorite finds. Hammered by hand and forged in fire they have a unique textured patina that gives off an inviting feeling while balancing the rustic and industrial elements of the space.
- 3. Keep it simple and practice moderation when decorating your kitchen. Incorporating open shelving adds a touch of style but also helps to keep your design intentional and clutter-free.
